Job Description: 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, flexible, hardworking person to join a small team dedicated to the daily running, development and growth of Lower Marsh Market. The role involves a significant amount of physical work outdoors, organisational skills and the ability to engage with a diverse group of traders, shop keepers and members of the public. The successful candidate will be a team player who is looking for a varied and interesting job.

 

Lower Marsh Market (wearewaterloo.co.uk/market) is a Monday – Saturday street market operating in Lower Marsh Waterloo. The Market is run by a social enterprise called Lower Marsh Market Ltd, which was set up as a subsidiary company of WeAreWaterloo (www.wearewaterloo.co.uk) a Business Improvement District (BID) in October 2012. WeAreWaterloo is an organisation that works with and for local businesses in the Waterloo area.

 

Lower Marsh Market’s strategic aims are:

  1. Create jobs for local people
  2. Drive footfall to the street to help Lower Marsh shopkeepers
  3. Provide opportunities for training and small business incubation, including via links with schools, colleges and universities
  4. Rebalance the local retail offer so as to ensure a greater mix, including provision for the local resident population on a range of incomes
  5. Form greater strategic links between the market and other developing parts of Waterloo such as Leake Street, Waterloo Station and a newly developed Johanna school site
  6. Generate a surplus to support the growth of the market and the wider regeneration of Waterloo

 

Job Description - specific tasks-roles the job holder will be responsible for

  • Set up and clear down of daily market stall layout as designated by market manager
  • Set up and clear down of market furniture (i.e. customer tables and chairs,  marketing materials A-boards and signs)
  • Maintenance, cleaning and organisation of storage facility
  • Maintenance, cleaning and repairs to market stalls and furniture
  • Monitoring stalls on market days to check attendance
  • Assisting with delivery of special events
  • Checking adherence to trader rules and market guidelines
  • Completing daily trader attendance records
  • Maintaining a safe working and shopping environment on the market
  • Adhering to health and safety guidance – reporting unsafe practice
  • Supporting with occasional marketing jobs – leafleting etc.
  • Implementing maintenance schedules
  • Any other tasks as may reasonably be required

  • Able to manage physical aspects of the role, including lifting and transportation of canopies and equipment
