Job Description: 

Background and Purpose of the job

The prime function of this role is to assist the events team in all sales and operational activities to help maintain and develop Borough Market Business Limited and enhance Borough Market’s community engagement.

To ensure high quality, timely and cost effective service to enable us to fulfill contractual obligations and maintain our Core Values.

To act as an ambassador for Borough Market, ensuring that a positive brand image is represented and maintained at all times.

Key Internal Relationships

BM Trustees;


BM staff (internal communications), working closely with the events department colleagues and the communications team;

Traders – consultation and relationship management

Key External Relationships

Borough Market Stakeholders, including, but not limited to market customers, commercial clients, local businesses, and local community associations. External service suppliers in line with budget including equipment suppliers, traders, caterers etc.

Key Responsibilities

• Responding to enquiries in a timely manner, as requested by the events teams

• Writing proposals and producing costings, as required

• Assistance with and, with progress, the possibility of independent event planning

• Operational execution of events, including out of hours and weekend work where necessary

• Booking staff and suppliers, as required

• Keeping security bookings, dry cleaning and cleaning bookings up to date

• Product sourcing and equipment hire where required, including liaison with traders as necessary

• Ensuring all paperwork is in order for every event, including supplier H&S docs

• Maintaining stock and equipment inventories for our public demonstration kitchen

• To help promote Borough Market by demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of the trust and BMBL

• To have knowledge of any relevant competition and their strengths and weaknesses versus the Market’s

• Assisting the events team in every way possible and using initiative to do things to help before being asked

Person specification and Experience required: 


Studying Event Management or similar at university with a pass rate of 2.1 or above in year 1 or 2 (as applicable)

Previous experience/sector (desirable)

General understanding of the events industry. Prior experience of working in a venue. Some experience of working in catering. Confident with relationship building, both internal and external.

Technical Skills/Knowledge (required)

• Good communication skills

• Excellent time management skills

• Good at prioritising

• Takes own initiative

• Motivated to succeed in the events industry

• Competent computer skills
