Job Description: 

Background to the Trust:

Our Trust, is a small not-for-profit organisation set up in March 2005 to manage the park located next to Tower Bridge & City Hall close to London Bridge. In addition to managing the park, the Trust has recently taken on the management of St John’s Churchyard Park (StJCY) from August 2017.

The objectives for which the Trust was established have become even more important as its first park is one of the few remaining green open spaces along the riverside.

The Trust will continue to:

  • Manage & maintain, as public open spaces, both Parks, thereby offering educational & recreational benefits to all of its visitors, both local & international
  • To work in partnership with its near neighbours by raising awareness through education, & leading by example in all areas of horticulture, arboriculture & wildlife best practice
  • Offer two distinctive Parks that reflect each of their unique local histories, whilst at the same time providing safe, clean & restful spaces for private contemplation within the bustle of the city.

Overview of advertised role:

To manage all aspects of events on the Park, including, but not limited to:

  • Gaining a good understanding of the Park as an event space, & finding sensible solutions for event organisers
  • Conducting face-to-face client meetings & site visits
  • Building good working relationships with all local neighbours & stakeholders
  • Monitoring the annual event calendar & working with the Parks & Event Manager to ensure the best strategic use of the Park from a revenue perspective, whilst balancing the horticultural needs of the Park & public access
  • Ensuring H&S compliance & strict adherence to the Lease/Licence & Bylaws, thereby protecting our visitors, staff & the Park
  • To coordinate participation & community engagement at The Trust with existing stakeholders & clients, & by encouraging new participants.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Event Management:

  • To liaise with outside organisations who wish to hire the park for events.
  • To manage commercial hire bookings, ensuring all H&S compliance & Park protection
  • To work with the Parks & Event Manager to plan events for the year ahead & oversee the Events Calendar as a tool for planning internally & promoting our work externally
  • To plan, manage & deliver key events with project staff for a wide range of audiences, to drive up participation & engagement
  • To manage small budgets associated with running events
  • To apply for grants where possible to help support the funding of our Community events.

Marketing & Social Media:

  • To work with Parks & Event Manager to create & develop a marketing policy & strategy
  • To design & project manage the production of any marketing materials required to promote The Parks & The Trust
  • To work with Parks & Event Manager to create & develop a social media policy & strategy
  • Work with the Parks & Event Manager to manage agreed social media & website content
  • 2018 → develop a volunteering programme as the courtyard park redevelopment comes to a close
  • Eventually producing feedback & reports on the volunteering programme
  • Represent The Trust, attending events such as networking meetings, volunteer fairs & community events to promote our activities.

Community Engagement (2018)

  • To recruit volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds to participate in The Trust’s programmes & other aspects of the organisation by developing & maintaining relationships with local community groups, partner organisations, businesses, schools & individuals
  • To build on the existing relationship with the two local primary schools & develop an ongoing educational engagement programme
  • Target & ensure equal access for individuals from marginalised groups such as speakers of other languages, young people & people with disabilities
  • Work with Parks & Event Manager to develop excellent volunteering policies & procedures
  • Build relationships with local corporate organisations to run activities supporting their CSR programmes

Additional duties:

  • Note taking & action plan implementation at the weekly Team Meeting
  • Formal minute taking at the quarterly Trust Board meetings
  • Meet & greet visitors making all guests feel welcome
  • Deputise for the Parks & Event Manager as & when needed
  • Monthly out-of-hours on call rota
  • To assist in bookkeeping for all Park Events, using  the Trust’s accountancy software, Xero (training to be provided)
  • Attend & support The Trust’s AGMs & other major events (time off in lieu will be allocated for out of hours work sanctioned by the Parks & Event Manager).

Person Specification:



  • Experience of event management (corporate, live or experiential) & the associated health & safety implications (2nd jobber min.)
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills with the ability to relate positively to Park users, staff, neighbours, stakeholders & BoD members
  • Confident interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational & time management skills with the ability to prioritise
  • Comfortable working in a small team, and occasionally working alone
  • High attention to detail, self-motivated, proactive & forwarding thinking
  • Ability to understand budgets & be commercially aware
  • Proven ability of your IT & social media skill set
  • Ability to produce electronic & paper based publicity materials including writing copy (e.g. websites, newsletters & press)
  • Interested in people
  • An interest in horticulture & beekeeping
  • A strong commitment to diversity & inclusion.


  • Experience of working for a small staffed organisation, or a start-up company
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
  • Current First Aid for Work qualification
  • Basic experience of bookkeeping, or at least the willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of computerised accounting systems, e.g. Xero
  • Experience of developing & maintaining relationships with local community groups, partner organisations, businesses & other stakeholders
  • Knowledge & understanding of relevant equal opportunities issues, particularly barriers to participation for certain sections of the community & how these might be addressed.
