Job Description: 

Role Purpose:
The Department has a strong commitment to customer Service and aims to ensure best value for money 
for the visitors to the gallery and all customers.
The role will support the Catering Services function and provide a professional and competent level of service to all customers working closely with the catering team to ensure that the agreed services are delivered on time to the required standards.
To be flexible and able to work in any of the College’s catering outlets including delivered and hospitality 
services.

Role profile:    

Key Objectives: 
Assist in the preparation and service of all aspects of the science gallery’s food offer over café, retail and hospitality areas, adherence to our Food HACCP guidelines, menu development with the senior team and General cleaning duties within the catering and dining areas.
To deputise in the sous chef’s absence.
Maintain high levels of hygiene and comply with all our Food Hygiene and Health and Safety regulations at all times.  
To provide excellent levels of customer service at all times to students, college staff and visitors.

Communication & Networking:
Communicating standards and service requirements to the kitchen team.
Liaise with your line manager to ensure they are aware of any concerns or issues relating to your work environment
Advise your line manager of any issues with the general repair, cleanliness or failure of equipment.
Conduct stock checks and place orders for any items that are required

Decision Making, Planning and Problem Solving:
Plan daily work load to ensure all areas are ready and open on time.
Address customer requests and enquiries in a polite and efficient manner. 
Present any customer complaints or compliments to your line manager.

Service Delivery: 
Brief catering assistants on the daily menus and content of dishes.
Display all food and beverages in a neat, appealing and safe way.
Effectively operate a till and maintain accurate receipting and accounting of all monies. Cash up a till in line with cash handling policies.
Respond to requests for information from customers in accordance with College policies.
Actively promote and sell the catering services to customers.
Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery within the department.

Team Work, Teaching & Learning Support: 
Direct agency and casual staff and assist them to deliver a professional and efficient service.
Promote teamwork and assist other members of the catering team when required.
To attend departmental meetings and training sessions as required.

Personal Care: 
Awareness of the support services available to students and staff within the college.
 

Person Specification:

Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom

Education / Qualification and Training:

Currently working in a similar environment

Degree level educated or equivalent

Intermediate Food Handling Certificate

Knowledge / Skills:

Strong customer focus

Excellent presentation skills

Excellent cooking skills

Ability to work under pressure.

Experience:

Previous experience in a similar role.

Previous Experience of high volume catering.

Previous experience of working in the higher education sector.

Personal Characteristics/Other Requirements:

To be able to work under pressure in many different working environments with good time management 

Adaptable and flexible

Role Specific Requirements:

Develop and grow the business
